PASTOR'S PEN

AUGUST
There is one simple verse in I Peter 2:17 which reads; Honour all men.
Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the King." Here are four
commands that we are acharged to obey as believers. The reasons why are given in I Peter 2:15,
"the will of God," "that with well doing,"(we do well when we
do these)and "put to silence the ignorance of foolish men." Let me now explain
a little about these simple but profound commands we are to obey. We as believers are to
"Honour all men", that is both Saints(the saved) and Sinners(the lost).
We are to "Love the brotherhood", the love is an unselfish, and undeserved, no
strings attached type of love. That is a mouth full and most of all a heart full.
We are to "Fear God", this is a twofold fear: first reverential fear which is
respectful, because of what the God has done for us(love us, save us, protect us, and provide for
us), but also there is the second type of fear and that is a terrible fear which is
terror and this is because of what God can do. Now is the last and that is "Honour
the King", of course the LORD Jesus is first and foremost as our King for eternity,
but also is our God directed authorities who we are to Honour as well because the LORD is
the one who sets them up even though they forget it and do not believe it. One more note
worthy to give is that all of these are to be continual, conscience actions which we are
to have a total commitment to as a believer in the LORD Jesus Christ. This verse is
short, simple and sweet but my what a complex meaning and sobering commitment we are to have as believers.
"For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:"
