Ever since the Christian work started by the church in Nagpur, there has always been a need for imparting Christian education to the children of the congregation as well as to others in the community. Efforts were made to establish a Christian school, but due to the financial stringency the goal could not be achieved. However, with lot of prayer and devotion to the LORD, the congregation decided to start a Christian Montessori Teacher Training School, with the sole aim of training the teachers first, with the Christian education and background, who, in turn, will educate the young kids.

Keeping the above goal in mind, a Teacher Training School was started in July 1996. A classroom was rented in Anjuman Complex Building in Sadar, in Nagpur, about a mile away from the church premises.

The name "MONTWOOD" was specifically given to it, because the congregation said that it was the Montwood church of Christ in El Paso, Texas, U.S.A., in 1992, which took the lead of supporting Nagpur church of Christ, in the very initial stage of its establishment in Nagpur, under the able guidance of brother Gene Reneau, who was the then Pulpit Minister of the Montwood congregation. Later, persons like brother Jim Suddeath of McEwen church of Christ, joined in supporting the Nagpur congregation, and its work.

Montwood Montessori Teacher Training Institute is headed by Mrs. Lalita Gupta, as its Principal. She is a devoted member of the Nagpur church. She herelf is a Montessori trained teacher, and she has gladly taken up the responsibility of running this Institute. She is assisted by two other teachers.

The MMTTI offers two types of courses :

1. Certificate in Montessori Trained Teacher. This is a six-months course. The entrance point is non-matric students.

2. Diploma in Montessori Trained Teacher. This is one-year course and the entry point is High School.

The Montwod Montessori Teacher Training Institute is accredited to the Rashtriya Shikshak Prasarak Mandal (National Educational Expansion Board), for Evaluation, Examination, and Certification. The RSPM issues its own certificates and diplomas to successful candidates.

The school year starts in July each year. The Certificate course runs from July to December. The Diploma course runs from July to April each year.

APPEAL FOR HELP !

Since MMTTI is a church endeavor, and the church itself is not self-sufficient in its finances, a small fee is levied to the students. Though, it is also noteworthy that, at times, some students are unable to meet their expenses during the training period, and face a hard time.

It is, therefore, an open appeal to all those who want this project to succeed, for the GLORY OF THE LORD, to come forward and support this humble endeavor in the service of the community. Apart from financial assistance, we are in need of all types of items required for a training institute , viz, books, stationery, equipment, charts, audio-visual aids, paper, computers, and a number of other items. Above all, we also need a building, since the enrollment is always on the increase, and we cannot rent a bigger space due to our extremely limited financial resources.
