WISDOM WOOD
( OR ) STICK
It
is also used and known as The
Charmana Wisdom Rod or Staff.
Many years
ago, I was with my maternal Grandfather, Fal -
Zon, ( John Aunko) as he was seeking for the best place to find
water near the rural house that was being built for he and my Grandmother.
He had cut a fresh willo that was forked. People of those
generations called them Divining Stick, Divining Rod or
Divining Wood. They were very popularly used by America's early-day
settlers as well. Everyone attested to their Divine draw, magnetism
or power. He would take the forked willow, using both hands to hold it
level as it was horizontal and pointiong straight. Then he would walk;
keeping in mind that he didn't want the found water source to be too far
away. If there was water underneath where he walked, it would move the
stick, ever so slightly. He kept on trying, until very soon, he had an
erratic jumping of the willow in his hand as it pointed downward! Water!
On the day that he used the Wisdom or Divining Wood, the freshly cut willow
" performed" wildly!
At the
full stride of sensical SPIRITUAL realm and power, of all North American
Continent Indians, the
always
fully respected unknown powers that pull, move or cause some object of
nature to suddenly appear and just as suddenly go from sight.
,
which is to say, KIOWA Indians, called upon THE GREAT SPIRIT (the words
GOD, JESUS or HOLY GHOST, were not known to them ) for a wealth of wisdom
that he might pocket, knowledge that he might stretch his arm to, and good
thought, as to how he would greet the new day and the people ( mankind
) that would be in his path that day. He placed his FAITH in GOD without
knowing HIS name...asking for, indeed, praying for wisdom.
It is still used today, for each generation, as they
come into the fold of humanity, must learn wisdom and hold in what it imparts.
