OUR LITTLE ONES

COMING TO THE WATERS OF LIFE

Vacation Bible School at Arlanza Baptist has come to a close as once more the focus on our young has been most fruitful and so richly spiritually rewarding.

From the scriptures, we know that the Kingdom of Heaven is vast. Jesus' disciples, in Matthew 18:1-6, came to Him with this question:

"Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?"

An an answer, Jesus called a little child unto Him and set him in the midst of them, and said:

" Vairly, I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as a little child, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

Further, in verse 10, He said, " Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones: for I say unto you, that in heaven, their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in Heaven."

Multitudes followed Jesus wherever He went while teaching on this Earth. At one large gathering ther were little children brought into him. Perhaps the children were noisy or crowding for the disciples got after them, but Jesus didn't mind. In chapter 19, verse 14, Jesus said:

" Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."

From this and from the many instances of Jesus' teaching, we find his truths were for that age, for any age and for all ages.
Children - our children - are a wonderful blessing. The songmaster surely had this in mind, when he penned these words to a most beautiful song that we have heard all of our lives, and still hear it sung often:

" Jesus loves the little children, All the children of the World......They are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the World."

At some places, the waters of life are shallow; at others, deep and at still others, very deep.
We want to be there as our children wade these depths. Our examples are in faith and hope, by daily teaching them the beauty of God's word in song, the scriptures, of His ever presence and listening to our prayers - and their prayers as well.
Sometimes we are discouraged or down; and the waters seem too deep for even ourselves. Our children can give us a lift though.

" Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.":

Proverbs 17:6, then in Psalms 127:3-5:

"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they chall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."

May God especially bless our children.
