In 1904, the well known and very popular evangelist, The Reverend Stillman Martin, was scheduled to preach in the Sunday morning service some distance away from where he, his wife and their young son were staying. Mrs. Martin fell dramatically ill. Of course, the caring and loving father insisted upon canceling his trip in order to provide proper care for his ill stricken wife.

After considerable discussion and perhaps even some Sunday morning matrimonial debate, it was the son (who had been listening in) who said to his father, "If God wants you to preach in the church this morning, surely he will take care of Mother...." Knowing the lad was right, the father departed for the service with his son, having confidence that God would take care of his wife. Upon his return home later that afternoon, Reverend Martin discovered that his wife to be remarkably recovered by the chance expression of their son earlier that morning.

Since that day, the song Mrs. Martin wrote has been sung by millions, including our congregations here at Arlanza. The words:

"Be not dismayed, what'er betide,
God will take care of you.
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.

"GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU ...."

words by Mrs. Civilla D. Martin, the tune by Reverend W. Stillman Martin.... and inspiration by the young Martin boy.
This 1905 hymn is on page 219 in our hymnal.
