The truth of this matter is that most people who are long remembered for great deeds were not in the least motivated to create memories. They labored to change the realities of life for themselves and those around them while they are still living.
For example: Martin Luther, the great Christian Reformer, devoted this life to translating the Bible into the language of the common man and writing hyms that could be sung to music the people enjoyed singing instead of the usual lifeless, humdrum chants of the past.
History shows us that Luther is indeed remembered by millions as the man who launched the Protestant Reformation that has changed men and nations. In addition to being one of the great men of the church, he is held in fond memory for being a man of great courage and faith. But, perhaps one of his most remembered accomplishments is the hymn that has become the national hymn of Germany, and has been sung on the field of battle by many aarmies. Yet, this is a hymn that fits perfectly into the most delicate of worship services, and a hymn that Luther himself sang to bring comfort in time of need.
The hymn:
written in 1528; is sung and loved by millions. This hymn serves as an indicator to us that Martin Luther did what he did, not so we would remember him, but the work he did. And we do.
