Do you remember Hippies, long hair, leather clothes, psychedelic drugs and music, fiots and war in our streets? How about the lunatic ideas and gree and open sex, or the anti-war demonstrations because of our Vietmam War efforts? Most of us would rather just forget those difficult days. Well, do you remember seeing signs and graffiti painted on billboards, bridges, and rocks along our roadways claiming that:

" GOD IS DEAD."

Yes, the 60's were tough to live through and tougher still to understand. When society seems to be losing the glue that has held it togeather, and when people start coming apart at the seams, it is the thought of many and unbeliever to cry what has been cried out before, namely, " Where is your GOD? has HE forgotten you? Is HE mad at you? Where is HE? " Well, for many, in the 1960's the answer was simple.....
" GOD IS DEAD."

This thought really bothered Bill. All of his life he had believed in the GOD of help and rescue. He had been taught from his youth that GOD was in control. Yet, in the early 70's Bill found himself in a long, dry, difficult period of depression and wonder. Where was his GOD? Is HE dead? Bill could not get excited about seeing the birth of his child approaching. He thought this is not a good time to be bringing someone into this World.
However, holding his newborn son in his arms and looking deep into his own soul, Bill heard the answer to the question in his own heart. He thought, " How sweet it is to hold a newborn baby and geel the pride and joy he brings. But better still the calm assurance that this child can face uncertain days because CHRIST LIVES." So Bill (Gaither) based his thoughts while holding his new baby son, wrote a song that won, Song of the Year in 1974.

" BECAUSE HE LIVES "
Really now, is GOD dead?
