How did I get myself into this??

I thought some of you might be wondering what it is that I do for a living...well, it is quite interesting. As some of you know, I have a B.A. degree in Music Performance. Yet, here I am, teaching Second Grade! :) Yes, I am a Second Grade Teacher at CCA which is a Christian Academy. We use the A Beka curriculum, which is also used by Homeschoolers. Since we use this type of curriculum, I do not have to be certified to teach in my state. Although I do not plan on teaching for the rest of my life, I do know that this is what the Lord would have me do for this season.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven."

Ecclesiastes 3:1

I believe that God is preparing me for the future. To do this, He is using a dynamic group of six and seven year olds!

I am still learning...

I think I have learned as much from teaching my class at CCA as I did when I was a student in college. These kids have taught me so much about life. I would like to share with you some of their wisdom...

One day my class was in our church sanctuary for choir practice. Since it was during the Thanksgiving season, the church was decorated with a large basket in the center of the platform. This was a big basket that had artificial ivy and vegetables cascading from under the lid. Very innocently, a little boy asked me "Does God live in there?"...Apparently another student had told him this. The lesson to be learned here is that just like this child thought God lived inside the basket, we too put God "in a box". We SAY that God is all powerful, but then when the times of testing come, we forget about God's power. We limit God during the very times that we need Him the most.

My students have such a simple view of God. They trust God to meet needs as simple as the healing of a bruised knee. If only you could hear some of the prayer requests that they share! It is not at all unusual for a child to request prayer for a pet. They KNOW that God cares about them and everything that concerns them.

"But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered..."

Luke 12:7

I am sure that we could all learn a few lessons from the children around us:)

ABOUT WAR.....

Yesterday I explained the situation in Iraq to my students. One little girl made such an innocent yet profound statement. She said, "Everyone needs to just put the bombs away and forget about it all." I had explained to the children that the reason we bombed Iraq was due to the fact that they won't let us inspect their weapons. If only the leaders of our countries had the wisdom of this little child.

"You have taught the little children to praise you perfectly. May their example shame and silence your enemies!"
~~Psalms 8:2 TLB

WHO EXACTLY ARE THE SAINTS???

If you need a good laugh, then this one is for you: This past Tuesday was our school's Winter Choir Musical. One of the choirs was singing a medly which included the song "When The Saints Go Marching In". Well, our town is only less than an hour from New Orleans, La. The home of the N.O. Saints football team. The day of our program, I was talking to my class about the importance of their music and how the poeple who would come to hear them sing would be ministered to.

Well, one of my students asked what that particular song had to do with Jesus. I looked at my class and said, "Well, who are the saints?" They all just looked at me with blank stares and I realized that they didn't know. I explained to them that the saints are simply people who know God. At the same moment, two students chimed in, "I thought the saints were the football people!". I wonder if the kids really thought we were singing about the New Orleans Saints! Boy, my kids do come up with some funny ideas:)

"He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail."

~~1 Samuel 2:9
