Using Internet Resources in Follow-up

The Internet, especially the Web, can be a valuable follow-up resource when a new Christian needs to find study materials and/or a church home. It is important that a Christian who plans to evangelize online know how to use the Web to make the essential links between a new Believer and those who can help him mature spiritually.

Resources for Bible Study
A Bible is the most important book needed for Bible study. The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible is not copyright-protected, as newer translations and paraphrases are. For this reason, the KJV is available for free download at several Websites. P. W. Inman has the KJV at his Site, http://www.inman-enterprises.com.

Concordances and study guides are peripheral materials. They can help a new Christian find the Bible verses he needs to read, but they cannot replace the Word of God.

River Bible Course, by Chris Gedge, is a top-notch book of basic studies. The first three studies can be filled out online; Chris will check the answers and send the results by e-mail. The entire book is inexpensive. The studies were written as a follow-up to salvation. The Website is at: http://www.5loaves2fishes.org.nz.

Bible Desk is a Website with links to dozens of topical Bible studies. The address is: http://www.biblestudyonline.org.

When recommending these resources to a new Christian, please emphasize that they do not replace one-on-one or small-group Bible study. No resource in Cyberspace is an adequate substitute for a human teacher who loves his God and his students.

Resources for Prayer
If a new Christian has prayer needs that he wants to share with other Christians online, or if he wants to lift the prayer concerns of others up to God, there are numerous Websites that post prayer requests. Many Sites have a person who reads all prayer postings daily, assuring that each posted need is taken to God in prayer at least once a day.

Petals of Faith is a Website that features a large, beautifully-displayed prayer section. Cheryl Hoffer prays for all posted requests daily and keeps the postings up to date. The address is: http://www.ilovejesus.com/worship/petalsoffaith.

Christianity Today has a large Site that includes a prayer-request directory. The Website is located at: http://christianitytoday.aol.com.

Websites of Churches and Denominations
These Websites belong to churches and denominations I trust, having read their doctrinal statements. The list is not exhaustive, but it enables me to find a church near a new Believer's home. I can have some assurance that the church I put in touch with a new saint will give him God's Word in truth. The Sites are listed alphabetically, and are followed by their Web addresses.

Setting Up a Website for Salvation Follow-up
Once you know what resources you want linked to your Web location for help in salvation follow-up, you must get an actual Web Page or Website to tie them together. You can then use your own Web location as a hub, from which you and others can access the linked Sites.

The major Internet service companies provide a Web Page to their customers as part of their service packages. They also provide links to Web-design software that can help you set up an effective, professional-looking Page. You may give out much or little personal information: That is up to you. A brief Christian testimony might be something you would want to share here; or you might want to state God's plan of salvation in a few words. You really should think of the Page in two parts: A page that will introduce your visitors to God in your absence; and links that will enable either you or a born-again visitor to begin the follow-up process.

If you want more pages than one, a Website is what you need. Sites are available free of charge from ILoveJesus.com (http://www.ilovejesus.com) and from TruePath.com (http://www.truepath.com), among other com-panies. Again, help is available from the Web-hosting companies to make your statememt for the Lord manageable and attractive. If you go with a full Site, consider grouping your links on one page for easy access.

As I stated in Chapter 4, you need to know what resources are available for follow-up. You need to know how to use them. A little exploration of Web resources in advance of the need is wise. When the time comes to help a new Christian get his spiritual life established, do whatever is necessary, follow God's leading, and don't give up!
