My Testimony ![]() The Past
I was raised a Methodist, with the best intentions. I went to church frequently, even took a confirmation class when I was 13 or so. But, I never knew God. I struggled through adolesence and the painful divorce of my parents. When I was 15, I started living the "party life". I was rarely home. By the time I reached college, I was rarely sober. I was an 18 year old alcoholic and drug addict. Thank the Lord I never experimented with the "hard stuff", but I definitely was a drug abuser. When I was 19, I suffered a nervous breakdown and dropped out of college. Two months later, I met Dave. He had been saved as a child, but was also living the "party life" at that time. Five months into our relationship, he took me to his mother's church. It was the first time I ever heard the message of salvation. That night, Dave led me to the Lord. You could say I was "saved by fire", for it was the fear of Hell that led me to that decision. Although I had accepted the Lord, I was not finished with the old life. ![]() Up to the Present
After we were married, we moved to North Carolina, in the hopes of some financial stability. Within 3 months, I was expecting our first child (at which time the drug and alcohol use ceased abruptly). A couple of months later, we were invited to a local church by a man knocking on doors. We rededicated our lives to the Lord, I was baptized, and we joined the church. The birth of our daughter, Morgan, was the catalyst for a complete overhaul of our lifestyle. Our road to repentance was not a quick jump. I envy those that are able to put the sin nature behind them a moment after accepting salvation. Ours was a long, slow climb. And, we are still climbing. But, our lives are stronger, happier, and healthier than they have ever been. Whenever we get discouraged, we simply look to our daughter's sweet face and remember what we're fighting for. ![]() Thanks for visiting! |
