“The Rocking Chair Prayer”
O Lord, I love rocking
Sorrows and worries,
Help me remember
This dear little child
I’ll cherish her forever
Days of childhood
Precious memories
I say a mother’s prayer
God entrusted me
Years will quickly pass
Lord, help her daily
Holding and cradling,
Copyright 2000 Brenda Weatherly
My babe in this chair.
I touch her soft skin
And smooth her fine hair.
There is not a trace
Etched in the innocence
Of my child’s face.
To hold my child near,
To comfort and nurture
When she sheds a tear.
is Your gift to me.
A close bond that’s unbreakable
With her is my plea.
This blessing from my womb,
Watching her grow
And into a lady she’ll bloom.
Hurry by just too fast.
I know this time to cradle
Will surely not last.
she will leave behind.
I will keep them locked like a treasure
In the back of my mind.
As I look at the blue sky.
Why are mothers so happy?
I know the answer why.
To care for this special one.
In this lifetime by loving her
My work will never be done.
And my baby will tell me with a sigh,
“I am a woman now
And I must say good-bye.”
To live a godly life
And continue to bless her
As she becomes a mother and wife.
Oh, I love this sweet embrace.
Lord, I will never forget
Rocking my baby in this place.
